OSU vs. McNeese State Postgame Quotes
November 19, 2008 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State Head Coach Kurt Budke
Opening Statement:
"I'll just be honest with you. I did not think we were very good tonight. Give all the credit to McNeese State and their coaching staff and their players. I think they out coached us and outperformed us tonight. I told their coach that afterward. I am very impressed with what she does. They should be very proud of their program. We have some things we have to get better at. Our intensity is not very strong right now. Defensively, we are not very good right now. I think we are going to be able to score with a lot of people. I don't think that is going to be a huge concern. We have some defensive rebounding issues that we need to straighten out and we will. It is just game two. We are not hitting the panic button or anything yet. I told the kids that it has to better than that if we are going to succeed in the Big 12."
On second-half turnaround:
"I don't think we played much better the second half. We are going to motivate the next few weeks. I will tell you that. We have good girls that want to win, that want to please our fans and that want to do the right thing. As we practice every day, they will get better. I don't know if it was a hangover from Duke or what it was. We played and performed a lot better at Duke than we did tonight. It is there. We just have little pieces that we have to pull together. Each individual needs to understand their role and how they can help this team more.
On Megan Byford's performance:
"We need productive minutes our of our five spot. They don't have to score 20 points every night, but between Shyvon and Megan, we need them to hold their own and at least match the totals of the other side. If they can do that, then we will be fine."
On Tegan Cunningham's performance:
"It is not very easy for a new player to be thrown into a game in one of the toughest places to play in America. That really was not fair to Tegan, but she did fine. She got to see just how physical this game really is. She is still getting comfortable with this offense, where she belongs and when she should shoot it or not shoot it. She has a great stroke, so I think we as coaches have to find a better way to get her involved earlier in the game."
