Beginning her first season with the Cowgirl program is Amber Metoyer, who assumes the role of graduate assistant for the 2008-09 season. Metoyer comes to Stillwater after a successful collegiate career that saw her compete in the NCAA Tournament in each of her four seasons.
For the Cowgirls, Metoyer will serve as the strength and conditioning coach and will also be in charge of film exchange, community service outreach, on-campus recruiting, compliance paperwork, the ballgirl program, and assist with summer camps as well as special events.
Metoyer began her career at the University of Colorado where she helped guide the Buffaloes to NCAA Tournament berths in 2003 and 2004. As a sophomore she averaged 6.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. She also was a member of the track and field team, competing in shot put and discuss. As a freshman she qualified for the Big 12 Conference meet, placing eighth overall in shot put.
Metoyer spent her final two seasons at Louisiana Tech where she was a captain for the Lady Techsters as a senior. She helped guide Tech to NCAA appearances in 2006 and 2007 and was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Defensive Team. Metoyer averaged 6.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 2.5 assists and shot 78 percent from the free throw line while constantly drawing the assignment of guarding the opposing team's best perimeter offensive player during the 2007 season.
As a member of the Lady Techster track and field squad, she finished third in the heptathlon at the 2005 WAC Outdoor Championship and set the school record with 4,777 points. The following season, she finished third at the conference meet with 4,977-three off provisional standard; setting another school record.
Last year, she spent time with the Houston Comets of the WNBA as well as the DT3-Atlanta All-Star squad. She also coached track and field at RidgeView Academy High School in Colorado.
A graduate of Fairview High School, she finished her senior year as the state of Colorado's leading scorer at 23.5 points per game. She also averaged 10.8 boards per game while earning first-team all-state honors. She was also named to the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News All-State teams and was a runner-up for Miss 5A Basketball.
Metoyer led the state in rebounding as a junior at 12.4 rebounds per game while also averaging 23.3 points per game. An All-America selection in track, she won the state championship in the shot put as a freshman and was one of only five heptathletes invited to attend the U.S. Olympic Camp.
The daughter of Mike and Rene'e Metoyer, Metoyer was born September 7, 1983 and has two younger siblings, Jarrett and Mariah. Mariah is a freshman member of the University of Denver's basketball team. Her mother competed nationally in track and field, while her father played football for University of Colorado before moving on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs.
