Daniel Byrnes and Oleksandr Nedovyesov Advance to Regional Semis

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The number one seed Daniel Byrnes/ Oleksandr Nedovyesov tandem defeated a West/Leonenko duo from Southern Illinois Saturday to proceed to the semifinals in the doubles draw of the Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships.
The No. 10 nationally ranked doubles team shut out the opposition, 8-0 for their third win of the tournament.
In singles, Cowboy senior Byrnes fought hard against the second seed, Andrei Daescu of Oklahoma, before falling in the final set. Daescu won the first match 6-3, but Byrnes roared back in the second to claim a 6-3 win of his own. Daescu was too much for Byrnes in the third as he prevailed 6-0.
Cowboy sophomore Anton Bobytskyi struggled in his singles match Saturday against third seed Daniel Bendheim of Nebraska. Bendheim advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Bobytskyi.
Byrnes/Nedovyesov will face third seed Hogan/Strode of Arkansas on Sunday in the semifinals looking for a chance to qualify for the National Indoor Championships next month. The Cowboy duo will have to win the tournament to qualify.
