Cowgirl Equestrian Handles New Mexico State

Oklahoma State's equestrian team competed as a whole Saturday for the first time all season and cruised to wins over New Mexico at the OSU Animal Science Arena.
The Cowgirls English team has picked up a victory on the season, but Saturday marked the first time for the Western team to show. With a strong mix of veterans and first-time riders, the Cowgirls (2-0) beat New Mexico State (1-3) by an overall score of 16-4. OSU won three of the four disciplines, including 5-0 sweeps in equitation on the flat and reining.
“The girls rode extremely well, but we noticed some things we need to improve on,” said OSU head coach Larry Sanchez. “We still have some things to fix, but the girls did what they were asked to do. We are very proud of the team.”
The OSU Western team earned a 9-1 victory over the Aggies. Horsemanship started off the day for the Western girls with the squad capturing a 4-1 victory. Senior Jordan Pickelman picked up the MVP for the discipline in her 78-74 victory over NMSU's Rachel Krause. Along with Pickelman, junior Suzanne Randolph and sophomores Courtney Whitacre and Margaux Tucker each contributed victories for the Cowgirls.
The final participants in the show for the Cowgirl Western team were the reining team. In the reining category, the Cowgirls completed the 5-0 sweep with senior Jacque Roberts capturing the MVP for the discipline. Along with Roberts, juniors Leah Kuehn, Rachell Shobe and Molly Tipton and sophomore Bri Parnell all added victories for the Cowgirls.
OSU's English team defeated the Aggies by an overall score of 7-3. In the early part of the competition, the equitation over fences dropped the category by a score of 3-2. Senior Jaclyn Osterstock and sophomore Erin Prutow both earned victories for the Cowgirls to remain undefeated on the season.
In the latter portion of the show, the equitation on the flat discipline was dominated by the Cowgirls as they swept the visitors, 5-0. Senior Sam Collingsworth earned MVP honors with her team-high score of 82. Along with S am Collingsworth, seniors Charlotte Collingsworth and Sarah Summers and juniors Jen McLaughlin and Ally Blais all captured victories. Sam Collingsworth, Charlotte Collingsworth, Summers and Blais each improved to 2-0 on the season in equitation on the flat.
