October 11, 2008 | Cowgirl Golf
ADELAIDE, Australia Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall and Pernilla Lindberg helped Sweden cap an impressive title run on Saturday at the World Amateur Team Championship at The Grange Golf Club.
The three-player Swedish squad, which also included Anna Nordqvist, rolled to a 12-stroke victory over Spain to capture the Espirito Santo Trophy. Sweden finished with a team total of 561, 19-under par, while the Spanish team came in at 573. The United States finished third at 575.
The biennial event is a 72-hole tournament in which the two lowest scores for each team comprise the team total for that round.
Hedwall, a freshman for the Cowgirls this season, posted a 2-under 70 during her final round to finish first in the individual standings. The Lodderopinge, Sweden native tallied a 10-under-par 280 total and finished one shot clear of Nordqvist.
Lindberg tied for 18th individually after turning in a 73 for a 293 total.
Competing for Germany, Caroline Masson posted a top-10 finish of her own, tying for sixth place. The OSU freshman fired a 2-under 70 on Saturday, giving her an even-par 290 total. The Germans finished sixth in the team race.
The OSU trio will be back in action when the Cowgirls resume their fall schedule on Oct. 17 when they travel to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Intercollegiate.
