Quick Notes
Oklahoma State is playing its third of four-consecutive games on ESPN. In fact, OSU is currently in the midst of five ESPN-televised games in six contests.
Monday night will mark the ninth of 13 games this season televised by either ESPN, espn2 or ABC. It is the 10th of 16 nationally televised games this season for OSU.
With 164 steals, junior guard Byron Eaton is just seven away from becoming the all-time career steals leader in school history. Ivan McFarlin is the current record holder with 170 steals from 2001-05.
Oklahoma State has lost 16 consecutive road games dating back to Feb. 11, 2006. The Cowboys have lost 13 straight Big 12 Conference road contests, tied for the second-longest streak in school history.
With five points, James Anderson will become just the ninth Cowboy freshman in school history to record 300 or more points his rookie season.
Series History with the Sooners
This will be the 211th meeting between these two schools on the hardwood all-time, with Oklahoma holding a 121-89 edge.
OSU holds a narrow 12-11 margin in the series since the Big 12 formed in 1996. The two teams have split the series and OSU won one postseason game in the Big 12 Tournament in 1999.
The Cowboys have won three of the last 10 meetings in Lloyd Noble Center.
In the last 17 seasons, there have been 12 splits in the season series. The most recent sweep was by Oklahoma in 2006. OSU swept the Sooners in 2004, 1998 and 1994. OU swept the Cowboys in 1999 as well, although OSU won a Big 12 Tournament matchup that year.
Only twice in the last 17 seasons did the two teams split, yet lose at home. Oklahoma State defeated Oklahoma in Norman in 1992 and 2000, while the Sooner returned the favor, defeating the Cowboys those same seasons in Stillwater.
Junior guard Byron Eaton has averaged 12.5 points in four games against the Sooners. He also has 11 assists and 11 steals in those four games. He is shooting 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from beyond the arc and 15-of-20 (75 percent) from the line vs. OU.
From Long Range
Oklahoma State is averaging 21.8 attempts from beyond the three-point arc this season. The school record is 18.9 attempts per game in 1998-99.
The Cowboys are averaging 7.47 makes from long range this year. The school record is 7.59 during the 1993-94 season.
The Cowboys attempted 34 three-point shots against North Texas, the most in school history.
As a team, Oklahoma State has attempted 30 or more shots from beyond the arc on four occasions all-time, including twice this season (34 at North Texas, 32 vs. East Tennessee State).
On the flip side, OSU limited Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to just 1-of-18 shots from three-point range, establishing a Gallagher-Iba Arena record with at least 10 attempts. The previous low was 1-of-17 by Baylor on Jan. 20, 1999.
The Pokes held Northwestern State to 1-of-16 makes from long range and limited Texas Tech to just 1-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc.
Pick Pockets
Oklahoma State had 18 steals during the Prairie View A&M game, the second most in school history. The Pokes had 12 at halftime, establishing a school record for steals in a single period.
The Cowboys are currently averaging 9.58 steals per contest. The school record is nine thefts per game, set during the 1988-89 season.
Eaton Moving up Steals Chart
Byron Eaton has recorded 164 steals in his three-year career at OSU.
With three at Iowa State, he moved past Desmond Mason (158 steals), Victor Williams (158) and Byron Houston (159) and into fourth place on the all-time career steals list.
He needs four steals to move into third place and seven to become the all-time steals leader in school history.
He is just the fifth Cowboy in school history to have at least 10 games with four or more steals.
Eaton is only the seventh Cowboy to have recorded at least 250 assists and 150 steals in a career.
Dove Swatting Shots
Senior Marcus Dove has 84 career blocked shots and is in ninth place on the school career list.
Dove is just the fifth Cowboy in school history to record at least 100 steals and 75 blocked shots in a career. He has 122 and 84, respectively.
As one of the top defensive players in school history, Dove is just the seventh player in school history to record 100 steals, 50 blocks and 250 defensive rebounds in a career.
Freshman Phenom
Guard James Anderson is just five points away from becoming the ninth Cowboy freshman in school history to score 300 points in his rookie season.
He has already secured the record for most treys made (46) and attempted (115) by a frosh in school history. JamesOn Curry was 45-of-104 in his inaugural season and held the previous record for both categories.
In his first official game in an OSU uniform, Anderson scored a game-high 29 points, tying the school record for most points by a freshman. Byron Houston had 29 against Kansas State on Jan. 25, 1989.
Andersons 29 points were also the fourth-most by any Cowboy in a season opener, regardless of class.
He has scored at least 20 points on six occasions this season. The school record for a freshman is 14 set by Richard Dumas during the 1987-88 season.
Another Rookie Stepping Up
Freshman post Ibrahima Thomas has been stepping up for the Cowboys as well. Over the last nine games all starts the 6-11 rookie is averaging 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
In his first 10 games, the Senegal native was averaging 4.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest.
The versatile forward is shooting 55.7 percent for the season from the floor, including 22-of-32 (68.8 percent) over the last seven contests.
He has made 6-of-14 (42.9 percent) of his attempts from long range this year.
Thomas also leads the team in charges taken with 12 this season.
Injury Bug
Oklahoma State has been hampered by injuries this season. Other than the normal nicks and bruises, OSU is currently down to 11 players in practice.
Both Andy Shaw and Brad Garrett suffered shoulder injuries. They both underwent surgery and will sit out the rest of this season.
Anthony Brown suffered a shoulder injury as well and is out indefinitely pending further examinations.
James Anderson suffered an ankle injury at Baylor but has started every game this season.
Harris, Eaton Like the Freebies
Byron Eaton leads the Big 12 Conference in free-throw shooting, the only player in the rankings shooting better than 80 percent.
Teammate Terrel Harris fell out of the rankings, going just 1-of-2 from the line against Texas A&M. He is averaging 2.42 makes per game played. The Big 12 minimum is 2.5.
