Cowboys Suffer First Loss of Spring Season

The Cowboys looked strong in doubles play, taking home wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Singles play was a different story though, as the Pokes suffered defeats at No. 3 through No. 6, giving the Bears a 4-3 victory.
In doubles play, the Cowboy duo of Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Nathan Byrnes defeated Cal's Pedro Zerbini and Eoin Heavey, 8-4. Also for the Pokes, Ivan Puchkarov and Dmytro Petrov defeated the Bears' Geoff Chizever and Shan Sondhu, 9-8, while OSU's Egor Sobolta and Anton Bobytskyi fell to Jonathan Dahan and Kallim Stewart, 5-8.
Nedovyesov and Puchkarov also took care of business in singles play as they picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Nedovyesov defeated Pierre Mouillon, 6-3, 6-2, and Puchkarov won a tough match over Stewart, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3. However, the Bears dominated the rest of the way and picked up the win, 4-3, over the Cowboys.
“This was a disappointing loss for us, today,” said Cowboy head coach James Wadley. “We felt good about doubles play and we got our wins at No. 1 and No. 2, but we got no production from 3-6 and we couldn't finish the deal. Our freshmen definitely got a better taste of Division I tennis today.”
