Cowgirl Basketball Continues Climb In Top 25
January 14, 2008 | Cowgirl Basketball
As a result of its 2-0 start this week in Big 12 play, Oklahoma State's women's basketball team moved up seven spots in the Associated Press Poll, coming in at No. 18 and giving the program its highest-ever ranking in the poll.
The Cowgirls (14-1) opened conference play at Kansas on Wednesday with a 59-54 win before snapping their 17-game losing streak against then-No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday night. OSU's 82-63 win over the Sooners came in front of the program's first home sellout as 13,611 fans, the largest crowd ever to see a women's basketball game in the state of Oklahoma, witnessed the event.
Head coach Kurt Budke's squad made its first appearance in the poll this season on Nov. 26, marking the first time since 1996 OSU was among the nation's top 25. That same year also saw the Cowgirls achieve their highest previous ranking as they checked in at No. 19 on two separate occasions.
OSU will put its six-game winning streak on the line Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it plays host to Missouri inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
