Andrea Riley Selected As Big 12 Player of the Week
January 14, 2008 | Cowgirl Basketball
Riley guided the 18th-ranked Cowgirls (14-1) to a 2-0 mark last week to begin conference play. The Dallas, Texas native helped OSU to a 59-54 win at Kansas on Wednesday and an 82-63 win over No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday night.
The sophomore guard scored 26 points on an 11-of-18 effort from the floor against the Jayhawks, while adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 40 minutes.
Riley capped the week with a 45-point outburst, 37 of which came in the second half, to help the Cowgirls snap their 17-game losing streak against the Sooners. She hit 12 of her 23 shots from the floor, including a 4-of-7 effort from the 3-point line. In addition, Riley connected on 17 of her 21 free throws, had two assists, three steals and zero turnovers in the contest, which was played in front of the first home sellout in program history.
Her point total against Oklahoma was the second-highest in school history and broke Clinette Jordan's single-game record for a Cowgirl inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The selection was Riley's second of the season as she was also chosen on Nov. 26. Overall, it is Riley's fifth weekly honor after being named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week three times last season.
