OSU Basketball Nominated for an ESPY Award
June 25, 2007 | Cowboy Basketball
Mario Boggan scored a career-high 37 points and grabbed a career-best 20 rebounds as the Cowboys took the victory. Texas phenom Kevin Durant scored 37 points of his own and grabbed 12 boards.
The game, which featured 15 ties and 16 lead changes, was deemed an Instant Classic by ESPN and was replayed on ESPN Classic the following Thursday afternoon. On Feb. 2  Groundhog Day  the game was replayed six times over an 18-hour period.
JamesOn Curry scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the contest, while Terrel Harris scored 16 and Byron Eaton added 11 for the Pokes. Eaton also made one of the most impressive shots in recent history, drilling a one-handed throwback falling out of bounds while the shot clock expired.
Two football contests have also been nominated for the Best Game category. One is the AFC Championship game in which the Indianapolis Colts overcame a three touchdown deficit in the first half to defeat New England 38-34 and advance to the Super Bowl.
The third nomination is the Fiesta Bowl. Oklahoma led 35-28 with 1:02 remaining in the game when Boise State scored on a 35-yard pass to send the game into overtime. The Broncos won 43-42 on a well-executed Statue of Liberty play and finished the season 13-0.
This is the third ESPY nomination for Oklahoma State in the last four years. OSU's 64-62 victory over Saint Joseph's in the 2004 NCAA Regional Finals was also nominated for “Best Game”. In 2005, Cowboy wrestler Steve Mocco was nominated for the “Best Male College Athlete” category.
