Curry to Leave Name in NBA Draft Pool
June 18, 2007 | Cowboy Basketball
“I've decided to leave my name in the draft,” said Curry. “It was a difficult decision, because I'm so grateful for the opportunity that Coach (Eddie) Sutton and Coach Sean (Sutton) gave me. I appreciate my teammates, all the OSU Cowboy fans and the community.”
Curry was second on the team in scoring last season, averaging 17.3 points per game. He led the team in assists with 131 and was also the team's most prolific long-range shooter, connecting on 88-of-214 shots from beyond the three-point arc. He was named first-team All-District 12 and was a finalist for the Naismith Trophy.
“It has always been a dream of mine to play in the NBA, and now is the time for me to pursue that dream,” Curry said. “This is an opportunity that I just can't pass up. I'm ready for a new chapter in my life.”
Curry came to Oklahoma State in 2004 following the Cowboys' Final Four run. As a freshman at OSU, he played an integral part in the Pokes advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2005.
“We've thoroughly enjoyed having JamesOn as a part of the Cowboy Basketball family,” said Sean Sutton. “I appreciate the many contributions that he's made to our program. He's a special young man who is a terrific basketball player. He also excelled in the classroom during his time in our program.
“He was fun to coach, and I'm proud of the way he has matured, both as a player and as a person during his three years at Oklahoma State. I want to wish him the best of luck in the upcoming draft. We are all pulling for him to fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA.”
For his career, Curry ranks 13th in school history for points scored with 1,363. He is third in all-time three-pointers made with 197, and fourth all-time in three-pointers attempted with 488. Curry is seventh in career assists with 356.
