Pair of Cowboys Fall at NCAA Singles Championships

Oklahoma State netters Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Ivan Puchkarov were both eliminated in the round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championships on Thursday in Athens, Ga.
Oleksandr Nedovyesov, ranked No. 30, was the first to hit the court, and he had a tall task as he faced second-ranked Somdev Devvarman of Virginia. The Cowboy injured his wrist in warm ups but continued to play. After losing the first set, 6-3, Nedovyesov defaulted shortly after the second set began due to his injury.
Nedovyesov wraps up one of the best freshman campaigns in the program's history as he played every match at No. 1 singles and was a unanimous All-Big 12 selection in both singles and doubles. The Ukrainian was also named the Big 12's Freshman and Newcomer of the Year. He was also honored by the Central Region as its Rookie of the Year and Player to Watch.
Ivan Puchkarov, ranked No. 30, faced Miami Hurricane Daniel Vallverdu in the round of 32. Puchkarov continued to struggle with Vallverdu as he fell, 6-3,6-2. It was the third time he has lost to the talented Hurricane in two years.
Puchkarov had an outstanding season, as he spent all of the spring ranked in the top 30. He was a unanimous All-Big 12 selection for the second-straight season and won an outstanding 28 matches this school year.
