Cowboy Tennis Upset at No. 42 Texas Tech

Oklahoma State's seventh-ranked tennis team lost its second-straight match Sunday as they fell in Lubbock to No. 42 Texas Tech (13-8, 2-3), 4-3, at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The Cowboys (15-3, 3-2) fell behind early after losing the doubles point for only the second time since National Indoors in mid February. OSU lone win in doubles action came when Ivan Puchkarov and Dmytro Petrov picked up an, 8-3, win at the No. 3 slot.
While the Cowboys had their 11-match win streak snapped with a close loss at No. 4 Baylor Friday night, a couple of Pokes had impressive individual streaks snapped Sunday. Senior Artie Burmistrau and freshman Dmytro Petrov both had won 10 straight entering Sunday's match up and both left Lubbock having those streaks snapped. Petrov had not lost since Feb. 16 while Burmistrau had not suffered a defeat since Feb. 4.
While it was not a good day for the O-State netters, there were a couple of bright spots for the team. 30th-ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov bounced back from a tough-three-set loss against No. 14 Lars Poerschke Friday to defeat No. 42 Blake Szumanski in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at No.1 singles Sunday. It was the freshman's ninth win this season over a ranked opponent.
The Brynes brothers, Daniel and Nathan, came through with much needed wins as the brothers picked up wins at No. 4 and 6 singles, respectively, to snap small losing streaks.
The Cowboys will end the regular season Tuesday when they travel to Norman to face No. 28 Oklahoma in the annual Bedlam dual at 2 p.m.
