Oklahoma State's women's basketball team has signed Megan Byford to a National Letter of Intent it was announced today.
“Megan is a big, strong kid who is always around the ball and is always in good position,” Cowgirl head coach Kurt Budke said. “She has great hands and the ability to finish inside. We are excited to have her for three years.”
A 6-2 post player, Byford spent last season at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid where she was named a third-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association as a freshman. She will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Cowgirls.
“With her work ethic and (Cowgirl assistant coach) Jim Littell's track record with post players, I believe her best basketball is ahead of her,” NOC head coach Scott Morris said.
Byford, a native of Bray, Oklahoma, led the Lady Jets to a 23-8 record last season while averaging 17.2 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. She finished first nationally in field goal percentage at 71.4 percent and her rebounding average was the 13th-best in the country. In addition, Byford was named a first -team All Bi-State West Conference and first-team All-Region II selection.
Off the floor she was tabbed as a distinguished Academic All-American after maintaining a GPA of 3.8 or higher.
As a senior at Bray-Doyle High School, Byford finished second in Class A in scoring at 22.5 points per game on her way to earning all-state honors. She was also named to the all-tournament team after leading the Donkeys to the state tournament where she averaged 19.5 points per game.
