No. 17 Netters Blank Nebraska, Win Eighth Straight

Oklahoma State's 17th-ranked men's tennis team opened Big 12 play in stellar fashion Sunday as they shut out Nebraska, 7-0, at the DeBois Tennis Center to win their eighth-straight dual.
The Cowboys took the early, 1-0, lead after winning three highly-competitive doubles matches Huskers, who were coming off a big upset over No. 23 Oklahoma on Friday. O-State has been playing well in doubles lately as they have taken the crucial point in the last six matches. At No. 1 doubles, Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Daniel Byrnes have won four-straight matches while Artie Burmistrau and Nathan Byrnes have won five straight at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Ivan Puchkarov and Dymtro Petrov have won five of their last six matches.
Once singles action started, Burmistrau was the first off the court as the senior bounced Marton Zsiga, 6-1, 6-2, at the five position. The Minsk, Belarus native has been outstanding of late as he was won six-straight matches.
Nathan pushed the Cowboy lead to 3-0 with a win at No. 6 singles. The sophomore cruised to a, 6-3, 6-2, win over Renato Melo. Byrnes is now 4-1 at the No. 6 position in 2007.
The match was clinched by Nedovyesov at No. 1 singles. Nedovyesov, ranked No. 57, beat Adrian Szatmary, 6-3, 6-4, to win his seventh-straight match, all coming in straight sets. The Ukrainian is now tied for the team lead in wins this spring with 10.
Daniel reached a career milestone with his, 4-6, 6-3, 10-2, win over Hendrik Stahmer at No. 3 singles. The win was the senior's 70th of his career. It was just Stahmer's fourth loss this spring.
Puchkarov, ranked No. 21, lost the first set to the talented David Bendheim, 6-7 (5). The junior hit his stride in the second set as he rolled, 6-1, then took the third-set tiebreaker, 10-3.
OSU's other freshman, Petrov, completed the Cowboy shut out as he beat James Clow, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. Petrov is tied with fellow freshman Nedovyesov for the team lead in dual wins with 10. He has a 10-1 mark this season.
The Cowboys will look for their ninth-straight win when they face Arkansas at the DeBois Tennis Center in Stillwater Wednesday at 2 p.m.
