The Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship will take place in a new venue and state this season, as Oklahoma City hosts in 2007. This year marks the first time since the league began play in 1996-97 that any city other than Dallas or Kansas City has hosted the basketball postseason championships.
The four-day, 11-game event will take place at the Ford Center from March 8-11. The venue has hosted numerous college basketball games since it opened on June 8, 2002, including the NCAA Championship First/Second Rounds in both 2003 and 2005.
The Ford Center is also serving as a temporary home to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets of the NBA, while boasting an arenafootball2 squad and Central Hockey League team. The venue seats nearly 20,000 for basketball.
Four different teams have won the 10 previous titles at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship. Kansas has won the most with four crowns, followed by Oklahoma (3), Oklahoma State (2) and Iowa State (1). The Jayhawks captured the postseason title last year, their first since winning the initial three league postseason championships from 1997-99.
