Cowgirl Basketball Opens Play At Big 12 Championship Against Kansas
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (20-9 overall, 8-8 Big 12) will put its three-game winning streak on the line Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. when it squares off with Kansas (10-19, 4-12) in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Championship at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. The Cowgirls knocked off Kansas State on Wednesday night to secure the No. 6 seed in the event, their highest since being the fifth seed in 1998.
Scouting The Jayhawks
Like the Cowgirls, KU closed out the regular season with a road victory, winning at Missouri to claim the No. 11 seed in the tournament. The Jayhawks are 1-1 this season in neutral site games. KU is led by second-team All-Big 12 selection Shaquina Mosley, who is averaging a team-best 10.7 points and 3.8 assists per game. A pair of freshmen are averaging double figures as Danielle McCray checks in at 10.1 points per game and Kelly Kohn is averaging 10.0 points per outing. KU has won four of its last seven games after starting Big 12 play 0-9.

The Cowgirls and Jayhawks have met on the hardwood 47 times with OSU prevailing in 20 of those meetings. OSU knocked of KU, 68-54, in its conference home opener on Jan. 10. The Cowgirls snapped their 25-game losing streak against Big 12 opponents on Jan. 10 with a 68-54 victory in Stillwater. The Cowgirls' last win against a league opponent also came against the Jayhawks as they logged a 57-54 win over KU on Feb. 9, 2005 in Stillwater. Sophomore Shaunte' Smith poured in 12 of her 15 points in the first period and finished with a game-high nine rebounds. Four of OSU's five starters finished in double figures. Joining Smith were freshman Andrea Riley, who poured in a game-high 18 points, senior Rashidat Sadiq, who finished with 10 points and junior Dominique Chism, who added 11 points in her first career start.
