Puchkarov and Petrov Win Consolations at Pacific Coast Doubles

The Oklahoma State doubles tandem of Ivan Puchkarov and Dymtro Petrov won the consolation bracket at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships in La Jolla, Calif., on Sunday.
After losing in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, the pair battled back to win five matches over the weekend to take the consolation championships. The duo cruised to a, 6-2, 6-2, win over David Jackson and Aba Omedele-Lucien in the finals.
In the winner's bracket, OSU's other two teams lost out on Saturday. Artie Burmistrau and Dymtro Petrov were beaten by Achim Ceban and Benedikt Stronk, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4, in the round of 32. Ceban and Stronk would go on to eliminate Daniel Byrnes and Oleksandr Nedovyesov, 7-5, 6-4, in the round of 16.
Since the championship was an open, the results from this weekend do not count towards the player's collegiate record.
The ninth-ranked Cowboys will next be in action when they host Oral Roberts on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Stillwater.
