March 13, 2007 | Cowboy Tennis
Oklahoma State tennis player Oleksandr Nedovyesov continues to impress in just his first semester of college as he was named the Big 12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.
The talented freshman led the way as Oklahoma State picked up two wins last week to improve its overall record to 8-1.
Against No. 69 Penn, the Alushta, Ukraine native, upset No. 50 Jason Pinsky in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. He followed that up by defeating TCU's Cosmin Cotet, 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles play, Nedovyesov teams with Daniel Byrnes to form the Cowboys top tandem. The pair put on a show against Penn as they defeated the Quakers top team, 8-1.
Nedovyesov has played all his matches at No. 1 singles and has notched four wins over ranked foes. All three of the freshman's loses have come against individuals who are either ranked in the top 10 or have been at one point in their career.
Nedovyesov and the 10th-ranked Cowboys will be in action Tuesday as they host the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles at the DeBois Tennis Center in Stillwater at 2 p.m.
