Autograph Session to Take Place Prior to Tipoff
Fans attending the mens basketball game against Kansas State on Tuesday, Feb. 27, are invited to mix and mingle with current Cowboys and Cowgirls, plus Special Olympics athletes, prior to the game.
Hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), comprised of OSU student-athletes who are responsible for a number of community service projects, this unique opportunity for autographs and photos will begin at 6:30 pm in the O-Club Room, located on the west concourse level of Gallagher-Iba Arena.
A silent auction during the event will help raise money for the Special Olympics. Items up for bid include memorabilia from each OSU sports team and other great prizes. Additional donations are also encouraged.
OSU Coaches vs. Cancer Campaign to be Honored
The American Cancer Society will nationally honor Oklahoma States Coaches vs. Cancer campaign for their fundraising success over the past years. OSU has the third-highest individual institutional grossing campaign nationally, and leads the Big 12 in dollars raised.
The chief operating officer of income for the ACS will present the award to former Cowboy Basketball Head Coach Eddie Sutton and the OSU Coaches vs. Cancer Committee.
Since 2003, the campaign has raised over $400,000 in cash and over $600,000 when combined with in-kind donations. OSUs program ranks first in the High Plains Division and third in the nation.
The annual mens and womens SWISH! Night is the OSU campaigns largest fundraising event, raising almost $20,000 recently for the 2006-07 season. Corporate sponsorships, Eddie Sutton face fans and bobbleheads, wristbands and temporary tattoos have been popular past items sold for Coaches vs. Cancer benefit.
One of this years fundraisers will be Celebrity Waiter Night at Eskimo Joes, who has donated over $80,000 to the campaign during the past three years through the sales of a special Coaches vs. Cancer t-shirt. Current Cowboy and Cowgirl coaches and former players will serve at Eskimo Joes, and all their tips will be donated to the OSU Coaches vs. Cancer campaign.
To support the 2006-07 OSU Coaches vs. Cancer campaign, fans can pledge online at www.osucoachesvscancer.com or contact Kendria Cost at kendria.cost@okstate.edu.
Cowboys to Establish Homecourt Record
Tuesday nights game will be the 17th regular-season game played in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
That total establishes a school record for home contests.
The previous record for home games was 16, set in 1988-89 and tied in 1991-92, 1996-97 and 1997-98.
Should the Cowboys defeat Kansas State on Tuesday night, it would tie for the school record for home wins at 15.
OSU has won 15 home games in 1988-89 (15-1), 1991-92 (15-1) and most recently in 2003-04 (15-0).
This season marks the eighth time in the last 19 years that OSU has won at least 14 home games and the ninth time in school history.
Against the Wildcats
Despite the one-sidedness of the series in Kansas States favor, Oklahoma State has won nine of the last 10, 21 of the last 26, and 32 of the last 47 meetings between these two schools.
Kansas State was 53-12 against Oklahoma State from the beginning of the series up through the 1979-80 season.
OSU has won eight straight in Gallagher-Iba Arena over Kansas State.
The last K-State win in Stillwater came on Jan. 9, 1993, as the Wildcats handed the Cowboys a 75-62 loss in overtime.
Mario Boggan nearly had a double-double in last years game with 11 points and nine rebounds.
