Cowboy Netters Down No. 11 Duke, 4-2

Oklahoma State's 14th-ranked men's tennis team finished its 2007 USTA/ITA National Men's Indoor Championship on Sunday by pulling out another close victory, this time against No. 11 Duke (4-4), 4-2, at the Midtown Tennis Club in Chicago.
As they had in every match in Chicago, the Cowboys found themselves in an early hole after losing the doubles point. OSU did manage a win at No. 3 doubles where Ivan Puchkarov and Dymtro Petrov downed Alex Stone and Ned Samuelson, 8-6.
Artie Burmistrau evened the score for the Cowboys with a quick win at No. 6 singles. The senior defeated Aaron Carpenter, 6-2, 6-2, to win his second match in the row. Burmistrau had a solid showing this weekend as he went 2-0 at No. 6 singles.
O-State took the led after Oleksandr Nedovyesov beat No. 100-ranked Joey Atas in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 1 slot. It was the third victory over a ranked opponent this season for the talented freshman.
The Blue Devils countered at the five position where Dylan Arnould beat Nathan Byrnes, 6-3, 6-2. Even though he lost on Sunday, it was a successful tournament for the sophomore as he went 2-1 in his first ever action at No. 5 singles.
The Cowboys took the led for good when Daniel Byrnes beat No. 54 Kiril Dimitrov, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 3 singles. The win capped an outstanding weekend for the All-American, as he was the only Cowboy to go 3-0.
Puchkarov clinched the win for the Pokes when he beat Peter Rodrigues at No. 2 singles. The junior lost the first set, 6-4, but rebounded to take the next two sets, 6-1, 6-4, to give OSU the win.
