Postgame Quotes
December 05, 2007 | Cowgirl Basketball
Cowgirl Head Coach Kurt Budke
On his team's sloppy first half
“I thought we were sloppy. We threw a lot of passes that just weren't crisp. We have to talk about coming out and being crisp and clean, being sharp and catching in triple threat, and being down."
"I just thought we were sloppy. I thought we showed up tonight like we were just going to show up and win and we are not that talented. We can't afford to do that. We have to understand what our roles are on this team - what you bring to the table every night  you have to be able to execute that. If you can't, then I need to find some of those young kids (on the bench) and give them some more minutes.”
On coming out stronger in the second half
“They listened to the adjustments at halftime. We tell them what they have done wrong and they do a good job of correcting that. We've had teams in the past that sometimes don't respond, but this team has and our second halves have been pretty impressive."
“It wasn't an easy halftime. We got after them pretty good and we needed to let them know. I told them that it is my job as a head coach to let them understand when they are not playing this game as it needs to be played. I would be cheating them as players and I wouldn't be doing my job as a coach.”
Sophomore Andrea Riley
On being ranked
“We are ranked and everything, and that's an honor, but we're playing not to think about it like that and to get a big head.”
“Being ranked was one of our goals. We always thought, ÂWhy can't we be up there with everybody else?' We're doing good, and we play hard and we've got intensity, but that was our main goal this year and we're not stopping there.”
On early struggles to start game
“I think we weren't really focused coming out of warm-ups. When you go out in warm-ups, you've got to carry it over into the game and I don't think we were really focused like we usually are.”
Freshman Kristin Hernandez
On difference in high school and college game
“The main thing is the intensity and the work ethic, and how everyone goes hard in practice. The pace is much different. It's been hard, the first couple weeks were a real struggle, but I think I've picked it up a little bit and I'm more comfortable on the court.”
On coming off the bench
“I like coming up off the bench. I feel like I can help the team coming off the bench better because it helps me to watch. I don't know the system all the way (yet) so I like to watch the starting five, it helps me get in a better flow.”
On being ranked
“It's special, especially considering two years ago (winless in conference) and how Andrea came in and the program turned around and now, it seems like each year we're just taking a bigger step.”
