Cowgirls Set To Host Wichita State
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (7-0) will play its final game before a two-week layoff on Tuesday when it hosts Wichita State (3-4) at 7 p.m. The Cowgirls will enter play with a national ranking for the first time since 1996 after checking in at No. 25 in this week's Associated Press poll. OSU comes into play fresh off a 96-54 win over Arkansas State on Thursday, while the Shockers are in the midst of a two-game winning streak.
For Starters
The Cowgirls are trying to duplicate their start from a year ago when they reeled off an eight-game winning streak. The string was the program's longest since a 10-game streak to start the 1995-96 campaign.
About The Shockers
Wichita State has won two consecutive games after defeating Western Illinois on Dec. 1. The Shockers opened the season with a win over Texas Southern before enduring a four-game losing streak that included a 70-36 loss against Big 12 foe Texas A&M. WSU is 0-1 in road games this season after a loss at Texas-San Antonio. The Shocker roster has an Oklahoma flavor to it as three players hail from the state, including leading scorer Kiki Stephens. The Tulsa native is the lone Shocker averaging double figures at 12.4 points per game.
The Series
The Cowgirls and Shockers have squared off on 18 previous occasions with each team winning nine times ... OSU has won six of the seven meetings in Stillwater, including a 72-59 win on Nov. 30, 2004 in the last meeting ... WSU has won four of the last five in the series after a 63-57 win on Dec. 22, 2005.
What 2 Watch 4
OSU will be looking to extend its regular season winning streak against non-conference opponents to 12 games ... a win would give OSU an 8-0 start for the second consecutive season ... the Cowgirls have never started 8-0 in consecutive seasons ... Taylor Hardeman is one trey away from moving into a tie for 11th place on the school's all-time 3-point list ... Cowgirl head coach Kurt Budke will be looking to move above .500 in his third season at OSU, he is currently 33-33.
