Cowgirls Close Out Non-Conference Action With Back-To-Back Contests
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (10-1) will close out its non-conference slate this weekend when it hosts Oral Roberts (7-4) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Texas Southern (2-7) on Saturday at 7 p.m. OSU is coming off a record-setting win over Central Arkansas on Dec. 22 that saw them record the largest margin of victory in school history. The Cowgirls enter play with a 7-0 home mark and will attempt to finish undefeated at home against non-conference foes for the second consecutive year.
About The Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles enter play looking to halt a two-game losing streak after suffering losses at Texas Tech (Dec. 18) and at home against Creighton on Dec. 21 in their last outing.
ORU is 2-3 this season on the road with wins at Tulsa and at Central Arkansas. The Golden Eagles suffered road losses at Texas Southern and at Boise State in addition to their setback against the Lady Raiders.
Juniors Jenny Hardin and Rachel Watmen pace a quartet of players averaging double figures scoring-wise. Both players are averaging 14.7 points per outing, while sophomore Janae Voelker is pulling a team-best 7.6 boards per outing.
Former Cowgirl guard Nina Stone is in her first season as an assistant coach for ORU.
The Series
The two teams have met on 36 previous occasions with OSU holding a 21-15 advantage. The Cowgirls claimed a 78-53 win in last year's Bertha Teague Classic to snap ORU's three-game winning streak in the series. The two squads have not met in Stillwater since OSU's 83-52 win on Nov. 18, 2001. The Cowgirls hold an 11-3 edge in Stillwater and have won the last nine at home in the series.
