Cowgirl Golf Falls At Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship

After seeing their second-round matchup with Duke suspended yesterday due to darkness, the ninth-seeded Cowgirls and Blue Devils resumed play Monday morning. In a match that went back and forth, the top-seeded Blue Devils were able to prevail with a 3-1-1 victory.
OSU junior Pernilla Lindberg halved her match with Amanda Blumenherst in a contest that was all square on three separate occasions and wasn't decided until Lindberg won the 18th hole to draw even.
Senior Tammy Clelland led wire-to-wire in her match against Kimberly Donovan, winning the first hole and building her lead to as many as 4-up en route to a 3-and-2 victory.
Junior Karin Kinnerud led for 11 holes in her match against Jennie Lee, but saw Lee win the match's 13th and 14 holes and hang on for a 1-up win.
Junior Amanda Johnson also led for most of her match, leading for nine of the first 11 holes against Jennifer Pandolfi before also suffering a 1-up defeat.
Sophomore Sarah Bradley also found herself in a see-saw battle as her match with Alison Whitaker was all square five different times. Whitaker took the lead on the 17th and held on for a 1-up victory.
In the consolation bracket, the Cowgirls squared off with conference rival Texas A&M. Once again, OSU got solid play from its top two players as Lindberg won five of the final seven holes in her match against Danielle McVeigh to post a 5-and-4 victory.
Clelland led for 17 of the 18 holes in her match against Sara Hemingway, but need a win on the final hole to claim a 1-up victory.
However, the Cowgirls came out on the short end in a pair of close matches as Kinnerud and Johnson both suffered 1-up defeats at the hands of Lauren Johnson and Sara Zwartynski, respectively.
Ashley Freeman provided the final team point as she defeated Bradley, 5 and 3, to seal a 3-2 victory for the 13th-seeded Aggies .
