COLUMBUS, Ohio  Oklahoma State sophomore Oleksandr Nedovyesov's run at the ITA Intercollegiate National Indoor Tournament came to an end with a loss to Denver's Adam Holmstrom on Friday.
Nedovyesov, a native of Alushta, Ukraine, opened the day by defeating Mississippi's Matthias Wellerman (6-4, 6-4) in the round of 16 Friday afternoon at the Racquet Club of Columbus. In the quarterfinals, Nedovyesov fell to Holmstrom in the first set. The Cowboy sophomore battled hard in the second set, but it was Holmstrom who came out on top in the tie breaker, taking the match (6-1, 7-6(0)).
Nedovyesov started the tournament with a convincing (6-2, 6-3) win over Harvard's Dan Nguyen in Thursday's opening round.
In consolation play, Cowboy senior Ivan Puchkarov fell to Embry-Riddle's Mislav Hizak (7-6(7), 7-6(3)), eliminating him from the tournament. Puchkarov suffered a first-round loss to Florida's Greg Ouellette that placed him in the consolation bracket.
“It wasn't a bad tournament for us,” said Cowboy assistant coach Yevgen Bondarchuk. “Our guys played well. Oleksandr played tough in the quarterfinals, but he played a very tough opponent. We thought Ivan played well in the consolation, too.”
