Cowgirl Basketball Earns First Road Win Of Season

RIVERSIDE, Calif.Â—Oklahoma State's women's basketball team was victorious in its first road contest of the season on Wednesday night, defeating UC Riverside, 76-58, in front of 197 fans inside the Student Recreation Center.

The Cowgirls (5-0) struggled to get into their rhythm offensively in the first half, shooting just 35 percent from the floor. However, OSU was able to maintain a lead for most of the period due to an active defense that forced the Highlanders (0-4) into 12 turnovers and a 36-percent shooting effort.

OSU built the biggest lead held by either team at 28-21with five minutes remaining before UC Riverside closed with eight of the final 10 points, including a 3-pointer as time ran out to trail 30-29 at the break.

The Cowgirls were able to push the margin into double figures five minutes into the second half as sophomore Andrea Riley converted an old-fashioned 3-point play to extend the lead to 47-36.

The Dallas, Texas native connected on eight of her 14 shots, including four of her eight 3-point attempts, on her way to a career-high 28 points. Riley also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists in the win.

Senior Danielle Green chipped in with the second double-double of her career, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Philadelphia native also had a game-high four steals.

Senior Maria Cordero and junior Shaunte' Smith also reached double figures with 12 points apiece.

The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fresno, Calif. to take on Fresno State at 1 p.m. (CST).
