Cowgirls Close Out Home String Against Sam Houston State
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will close out its string of four consecutive home games on Saturday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Sam Houston State (0-3) in Stillwater. The Cowgirls are coming off a 76-48 win over High Point on Wednesday night.
About The Bearkats
Sam Houston State comes to town in search of its first win of the season after suffering a 68-52 loss on Thursday against North Texas. The Bearkats opened the season with losses against Southern Mississippi and at South Alabama. Junior center Lydia Gonzales has been the squad's leading scorer and rebounder at 13.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Whitney Smith is also in double figures at 12.3 points per game.
For Starters
The Cowgirls enter the 2007-08 season trying to duplicate their start from a year ago when they reeled off an eight-game winning streak. The string was the program's longest since a 10-game streak to start the 1995-96 campaign.
The Series
The Cowgirls and Bearkats have met on four previous occasions. OSU holds a 3-1 advantage overall and has won the last three meetings. All four contests have taken place in Stillwater and all four came in OSU-hosted classics. After losing the first meeting in 1982, the Cowgirls have won each of the last three, including a 76-52 win at the 2003 Cowgirl Classic.
What 2 Watch 4
OSU will be looking to extend its non-conference home winning streak to 18 games ... a win would give OSU a 4-0 start for the second consecutive season ... the Cowgirls haven't started with four-straight wins in consecutive seasons since the 1995-96 and 1996-97 campaigns ... Taylor Hardeman is three treys away from moving into a tie for 11th place on the school's all-time 3-point list.
