Quick Notes
Oklahoma State is looking to end a current 12-game losing streak in true road games, dating back to Feb. 11, 2006. It is the fifth-longest losing streak in school history for true away games. OSUs last road win was on Feb. 4, 2006, at Kansas State.
The Cowboys have won 13 of their last 18 true road openers, including two at North Texas (Nov. 28, 1989 and Nov. 28, 2000).
OSU has won 14 of its last 18 openers away from Gallagher-Iba Arena, including the last 10. The Pokes last loss in their first game of a season away from Stillwater was on Nov. 22, 1996, when the Cowboys lost at Tulsa.
James Andersons 29 points against Prairie View A&M last Friday night were the most by a Cowboy in his collegiate debut in school history.
That total tied for the most by an OSU freshman in a single game, matching Byron Houstons 29 vs. Kansas State on Jan. 25, 1989.
It also tied for the fourth-most points in a season opener in school history, matching Bryant Reeves 29 against Midwestern State on Dec. 1, 1992.
Game Notes
Oklahoma State is 12-0 all-time against North Texas, including a 4-0 mark in Denton.
The Cowboys are 6-0 against the Eagles in Stillwater, and 2-0 on neutral courts both in Oklahoma City.
The very first game in the series, played on Dec. 29, 1937, was in Oklahoma City as part of the All-College Tournament.
The game played on Dec. 28, 1980, in OKC was also part of the All-College Tournament.
Oklahoma States average margin of victory in the last five meetings has been 32.2 points.
OSU is 37-8 (82.2 winning percentage) against the Sun Belt Conference, of which North Texas is a member.
The Cowboys are 9-2 against Arkansas State, 8-3 vs. New Orleans, 4-0 against Arkansas-Little Rock, 2-0 vs. Denver, 1-0 against Florida International, 1-1 vs. Florida Atlantic, and 0-1 against South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette. OSU has not played Louisiana-Monroe, Middle Tennessee State or Western Kentucky.
Oklahoma States last loss to a Sun Belt Conference member was on Dec. 1, 1998, when Florida Atlantic handed the Cowboys an 83-81 loss inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Freshman Phenom
Freshman guard James Anderson is just one game into his collegiate career, but he has quickly shown that he could potentially be one of the best players to ever come through Stillwater.
In his first official game in an OSU uniform, Anderson scored a game-high 29 points, tying the school record for most points by a freshman. Byron Houston had 29 against Kansas State on Jan. 25, 1989.
Andersons 29 points were also the fourth-most by any Cowboy in a season opener, regardless of class.
A good all-around player, Anderson also had five assists, four rebounds, three steals and just one turnover in 30 minutes.
Entire Freshman Class Impressive
Not only James Anderson did well in his collegiate debut. The entire freshman class was impressive in the season opener.
Forward/center Ibrahima Thomas also started for the Cowboys and scored 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor. He also had four rebounds.
Forward/center Martavius Adams recorded 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor in 12 minutes.
Guard/forward Marshall Moses scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds in 12 minutes.
Guard Nick Sidorakis scored four points and dished out two assists in 14 minutes.
As a group, those five freshman scored a combined 64 points in their first game together.
In comparison, the freshman class of 1988, which included Darwyn Alexander, Shawn Davis, Billy Dreher, Byron Houston, Cedric Mackyeon and Corey Williams, had a single-game high of 50 points against Boise State in the first round of the 1989 NIT. Williams scored 23, Houston 15 and Alexander finished with 12 in that game against the Broncos.
Eaton Moving up Steals Chart
Byron Eaton has recorded 128 steals in his two-year career at OSU.
He is just the 22nd Cowboy to reach 100 thefts in a career.
Eaton is currently in 17th place on the school career steals list.
He needs three steals to move past Melvin Sanders for 16th place.
The all-time career record at Oklahoma State is 170 steals set by Ivan McFarlin from 2001-05.
Dove Swatting Shots
Senior Marcus Dove has 65 career blocked shots, tied for the 10th-most in school history.
Marcus is tied with Richard Dumas for 10th place.
He became just the 12th player in school history to record 50 or more blocked shots in a career.
Dove has blocked four shots on two occasions, most recently vs. Northwestern State on Nov. 15, 2006.
