Cowgirl Basketball Set To Host Lamar
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will continue its season-opening four-game homestand on Monday night when it hosts Lamar (1-0) at 7 p.m. The Cowgirls are coming off an 89-49 win over Air Force on Friday.
For Starters
The Cowgirls enter the 2007-08 season trying to duplicate their start from a year ago when they reeled off an eight-game winning streak. The string was the program's longest since a 10-game streak to start the 1995-96 campaign. Both years resulted in NCAA Tournament berths for the squad.
About The Cardinals
Lamar opened its season on Saturday with an 86-52 win over LSU-Shreveport, giving head coach Larry Tidwell his first victory at the Division I level. In the victory, Tamara Abalde was one of four players to reach double figures and led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Cardinals return one starter and five letterwinners from last year's squad that finished with a 13-17 record.
The Series
The Cowgirls and Cardinals have squared off on four previous occasions with OSU winning all four times. The two teams first met during the 1973-74 season at the AIAW Regional Tournament with the Cowgirls prevailing 68-51. Each of the past three meetings has taken place in Stillwater with the most recent matchup taking place on Nov. 19, 1999.

OSU will be looking to extend its non-conference home winning streak to 16 games ... OSU will be looking to improve to 5-0 all-time against Lamar ... a win would give OSU a 2-0 start for the second consecutive season ... the Cowgirls haven't started with back-to-back wins in consecutive seasons since the 2000-01 and 2001-02 campaigns.
