Postgame Quotes
November 10, 2007 | Cowgirl Basketball
Cowgirl Head Coach Kurt Budke
Opening Statement
“I wasn't crazy about the first half tonight, but it didn't surprise me because I had seen just enough tape on them. I knew they had some veterans out there. We are still trying to figure ourselves out and what we do well and what we don't do well, who can play and who can't play. I told my wife before I came out here tonight, ÂHonestly, I think it is going to be a game. I think we are going to be up nine or 10 at half .' and we were up nine. I said I think we can wear them out and I think that showed up at the end. I thought we didn't quit and I thought the second half was much more efficient. I thought we took better shots in the second half. I thought our shot selection was poor in the first half and our defense, at times, was poor. Again, maybe the way it should be this time of year. I thought the second half was very good and I'm telling you it will make the old coach sleep well tonight when you have a freshman (Kristin Hernandez) score 25.”
On the Team
“We can be explosive. When our defense starts getting deflections and we start running, shifting people out and playing different combinations, we can put a 10-0 run on someone or a 15-2 run on someone. I don't know what the run was tonight, but I imagine it was fairly impressive when it did happen.”
On OSU's defense
“We are going to win alot of games if we force people into 26 turnovers like that. We are still kind of feeling ourselves out about picking up full or picking up three-quarters. We didn't switch up defenses very much tonight, but I think this is a key time of the year for us to figure it out. It is a great time of year to figure it out because we have three games next week. We have practiced enough, lets get out and play and show them the tape and make the adjustments. I am excited about practice tomorrow because we saw some things that we can get better at tomorrow.”
On Kristin Hernandez
“What is impressive about her (Hernandez) is how she finishes on the break. I think that is really impressive for a freshman. I have been in this a long time and I can't think of a freshman I have had that has popped out in a major college game and put 25 on the board. It is really impressive. The thing is, you can go back and look at her shot selection and her feet were set, she was open and I didn't think she forced a bad shot all night long.”
