Petrov Continues Run at Polo Ralph Lauren Event

TULSA, Okla. Â– Oklahoma State's Dmytro Petrov continued his impressive run at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tournament on Tuesday.

Petrov, a sophomore from Kiev, Ukraine, defeated 55^th-ranked Nick Cavaday of North Carolina State, 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the third round of the men's singles qualifying draw. Petrov advanced to the match against Cavaday by defeating Alabama's Dan Buikema in Monday's first-round action.

“Petrov played extremely well today,” said Cowboy head coach James Wadley. “He hit his ground strokes really well, and was great with his forehand and backhand.”

Petrov was also strong in doubles play as he and fellow Cowboy sophomore Oleksandr Nedevyesov defeated Clemson's duo of Ike Belk and Derek Difazio, 8-5 in the first round of the qualifying doubles draw. In the second round, the Cowboy duo defeated Miami's Vivek Subramanian and David Rosenfeld, 8-6.

Petrov and Nedevyesov will kick things off for the Pokes Wednesday as they take on Texas' Luis Diaz Barriga and Ed Corrie at 1:30 p.m. Petrov will continue his run in the singles qualifying draw against North Carolina's Chris Kearney at 10:30 p.m. The event is being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the Tulsa campus.
