Cowboys Place Two in Semis; Fail to Reach Finals

TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team started the day in impressive fashion as two Cowboy players advanced to the semifinals of the singles main draw at the Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships, but at the end of the day, both players were eliminated from competition.

Senior Ivan Puchkarov and sophomore Dmytro Petrov each advanced to the semifinals with impressive victories in the quarterfinals, making OSU the only school with two players in the semifinals.

Puchkarov defeated UALR's Marko Ballok (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) to advance to the semifinals. There, he came up short against Oklahoma's Andrei Daescu (6-1, 6-2).

Petrov pulled a big upset as he defeated Tulsa's Ricardo Soriano (6-3, 7-5) to advance. In the semifinals, he came just short of reaching the finals as he lost a tough match to Drake's Dalibar Pavic (6-3, 7-5, 7-5).

In doubles action, Petrov and fellow sophomore Oleksandr Nedevyesov couldn't pull out the victory as they fell to Arkansas' Colin Mascall and Blake Strode (8-3).

Next up for the Cowboys, Puchkarov will join Nedevyesov at the Wilson ITA National Individual Championships. The tournament will be held November 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio.
