Cowgirl Head Coach Kurt Budke
Opening Statement
"Last year at this time, I stood up here and we were coming off an 0-16 record. I didn't know what to tell you, I thought we would be a little bit better. I thought we recruited some kids to win, but when you are in the Big 12 South you obviously have no idea when you are coming off 0-16 how hard it is to recruit. My assistant coaches went out and did an unbelievable job recruiting winners.”
“The NCAA Tournament, we are very proud of that. To have the biggest turnaround in the nation, we are very proud of that. What happened last year is done. This year I can stand up and tell you we do have the Big 12 Freshman of the Year (Andrea Riley) back, we do have Danielle Green back, an honorable mention All-Big 12 player. We have Taylor Hardeman back who played 35 minutes a game.”
“I can stand up this year and tell you I feel good about our team. We have brought in a nice mixture of three junior college players and three freshmen. This has been the easiest and most fun team to work with. They are excited to come into practice every day.”
On the team's depth
“We were pretty limited on what we could do last year. This year you are going to see us press more. We are even going to be able to get our guards some rest.”
On Taylor Hardeman
“Last year she was one of the most underrated players in the conference. She is our best position defender and she could knock down the three. Taylor is solid and can run all day.”
On Danielle Green
“She is one that is not going to be denied. She is going to be the toughest, strongest kid on the floor, and she expects that out of herself. I think you are going to see some huge strides from her this year.”
On Maria Cordero
“ She had a great summer, dropped some weight and put on some muscle. She has the keys for us to be successful. She shoots the ball so well and we need to have scorers on the floor.”
