Cowboy Tennis Team Strong on Day One of Regional Action

TULSA, Okla. Â– Oklahoma State's men's tennis team, led by senior Ivan Puchkarov, was impressive on the first day of the Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships.

Puchkarov finished the day 2-0 as he advanced to the round of 16 in the main singles draw. He defeated Nebraska's Taylor Roney (6-0, 6-1) in first-round action before Illinois State's Nino Tacinto (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).

Dmytro Petrov, a Cowboy sophomore, followed suit as he advanced to the round of 16 with wins over Arkansas' Taylor King (6-1, 6-3) and Southern Illinois' Hugo Vidal (6-0, 6-3). Cowboy junior Nathan Byrnes picked up a first-round win over Arkansas-Little Rock's Igor Nikitin (6-1, 6-2) before falling to Nebraska's Hendrik Stahmer (6-4, 6-4) in the second round.

The Cowboys enjoyed themselves in doubles play as well as both doubles teams picked up wins to advance to the round of 32. Petrov teamed up with fellow sophomore Oleksandr Nedvyesov to defeat UALR's Dorian Sovic and Victor Wibreus (8-1), while Puchkarov and Byrnes defeated ORU's duo of Clemens Geercken and Dennis Troyke (8-3).
