Oklahoma State Head Coach Kurt Budke
On Baylor
“Baylor is a good team that has a great chance of advancing into the NCAA Tournament. They have all of the pieces of the puzzle, and a coach who has won a national championship.”
On the play of Baylor's Bernice Mosby
“We played a great Baylor team with a great player in (Bernice) Mosby. I thought (Sophia) Young was pretty good, but Mosby is every bit of that, if not better. She rises up above you and sticks in that jump shot. I thought we defended her well, but she was able to make some tough shots on us.”
On the play of Oklahoma State
“I am proud of the way my team played today. I thought our players showed that we have taken a little step and that we are closing the gap a little bit. If we hit some free throws in the first half, then maybe it would have been a two-point game at halftime instead of what it was. At key times, Baylor hit their shots and we did not. Our players never quit.”
On the play of Oklahoma State's Maria Cordero
“We have been working with (Maria) Cordero on helping turn her into a three-point threat the past couple of weeks. She is our best three-point shooter, and sometimes it is hard for other teams to drag a defender out to cover her. We are going to a little more of that as we go down the road. We have been practicing on getting her more involved beyond the arc and it came through for us today. We need every point we can get from her.”
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the play of Bernice Mosby
“In this business everybody is good and you've got to keep working and recruiting. Bernice came out at the right time and filled a void in our rotation of players when it's much needed. As you saw tonight, Bernice is, in my opinion, one of the top two players in the league.”
“Bernice transferred to us and has been nothing but a leader and someone we look to, that we enjoy being around. She knows she made a mistake at Florida, but she doesn't dwell on that and look back. She's at peace with where she is now.”
On Baylor's offensive play
“We had some good looks and if you (always) hit the first pass and shot, then you look like you're all-world. We all understand realistically in a game you're not going to do that and I thought that we were very patient offensively. I still think that we need to do a better job penetrating the gaps and looking to the backside.”
On the run to end the first half
“You always want the momentum at the end of the half and you want to make sure the first five minutes of the second half you don't lose momentum. So it was very big, as was the first five minutes of the second half.”
On Oklahoma State's improvement
“They're just a much improved basketball team. They've got players that have won at the junior college level that aren't used to losing and are going to bring that attitude and mentality in here.”
