Cowboys Face Jayhawks
The Cowboys travel to Lawrence, Kan., this week for a Wednesday night matchup with the Kansas Jayhawks.
OSU is 15-1 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 Conference action following an 81-77 victory over Baylor last Saturday.
KU is 13-2 overall and will be playing its first league game when hosting the Cowboys.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on espn2. Gary Thorne will handle the play-by-play duties while Fran Fraschilla will provide expert analysis.
This will be Oklahoma States third game broadcast on espn2 and its sixth nationally televised contest. OSU is 2-1 this season on one of the ESPN national networks.
Cowboys Against Ranked Opponents
Oklahoma State is 12-10 against top-10 teams over the past six seasons and has won 11 of the last 19 vs. top-10 opponents. The Cowboys are 0-6 vs. top-10 teams on the road over the last six seasons.
OSU is 21-19 vs. top-25 teams since the 2001-02 season. The Pokes are 1-9 vs. top-25 teams on the road in that same time span. The only win came at Texas on Jan. 24, 2004 (a 72-67 victory over the No. 16 Longhorns).
The last time Oklahoma State played a game when both teams were ranked in the top 10 was March 24, 2005, when the No. 6-ranked Cowboys fell to ninth-ranked Arizona 79-78 in the Sweet 16 in Chicago, Ill.
The last time these two teams were both ranked in the top 10 at game time was on March 12, 2005, when No. 10-ranked OSU defeated ninth-ranked Kansas 78-75 in the Big 12 Championship semifinals in Kansas City.
Game Rewind Highlights
Mario Boggan recorded a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds as the Cowboys held off the Baylor Bears 81-77 Saturday evening.
JamesOn Curry added 20 points and was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, including 5-of-6 in the last 21 seconds to seal the win.
OSU outrebounded Baylor by a 43-32 margin including 11 by sophomore Kenny Cooper, his first-career double-figure rebounding game.
The Cowboys led by as many as 16 points with just under 14 minutes remaining in the game.
However, the Bears were 14-of-21 (66.7 percent) from the floor over the final 13-1/2 minutes, including 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from behind the three-point line.
After missing the previous game with an eye injury, sophomore Terrel Harris, sporting a Phantom of the Opera mask, scored 13 points in 23 minutes of play.
Byron Eaton also reached double figures with 10 points.
Cowboys Provide Record-Setting Performance
Oklahoma States 129 points against Southwestern Oklahoma State established a school record.
The previous record was 127 points scored vs. Santa Fe on Dec. 3, 1977.
OSUs 44 field goals ties for the sixth most in a single game in school history.
It marked just the second time in school history that two Cowboys have scored 30 or more points in the same game.
Fred Burley (35), Brooks Thompson (33) and Bryant Reeves (31) all scored 30 or more points against Oral Roberts on March 4, 1993.
Oklahoma State Among Nations Best
Oklahoma State is one 10 one-loss teams nationally and one of just four teams that has won at least 15 games this season as of Sunday.
Other 15-game winners are: Clemson (16-0), Wisconsin (15-1) and Air Force (15-1).
Oklahoma States 93.8 winning percentage is tied for the second-best mark in the country.
30-Point Productions
JamesOn Currys 31-point performance against SWOSU was the third of his career.
He is one of just nine Cowboys in school history to record 30 or more points in at least three games.
Mario Boggans 36-point outing against the Bulldogs was the second of his career, making him one of 18 Pokes to have multiple 30-point games.
Byron Houston holds the school record for the most 30 point games with 12. Bryant Reeves had 10, while Ed Odom and Randy Rutherford each had six. Desmond Mason had five and Ronnie Daniel had four.
20-Point Productions
Boggan scored 26 points and Curry added 20 against Baylor, giving OSU a total of 21 20-point performances this season.
Last year, the Cowboys had 14 20-point outings all season long.
Mario Boggan has 12 20-point games this season, while Curry has eight. Terrel Harris had his first of the season with 20 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Balanced Attack
Oklahoma State has had 68 double-figure performances by seven different players this season.
Mario Boggan and JamesOn Curry have both reached double figures in all 16 games while sophomore Terrel Harris has reached double figures in 11 contests.
Freshman Obi Muonelo reached double figures in 10 games.
OSU has had five double-figure scorers in seven different games this season: Florida Atlantic, Sam Houston State, Missouri State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Pepperdine, Pittsburgh and Southwestern Okla. State.
Oklahoma State has had at least three double-figure scorers in all 16 games this season.
Oklahoma State in the Polls
Oklahoma State is ranked ninth in the most recent Associated Press poll and 10th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
The Cowboys return to the top 10 for the first time since the final poll of the 2004-05 season when OSU was ranked sixth in the final AP poll and eighth in the final Coaches poll.
Oklahoma State plays seven games this season against teams currently ranked in at least one of the top-25 polls: No. 6/6 Kansas (in Lawrence Wednesday night), No. 7/7 Pittsburgh (won 95-89 in double overtime in the All-College Classic), No. 8/9 Texas A&M (in Stillwater and in College Station), No. 16/20 Tennessee (lost 79-77 in Nashville), and No. 25/NR Texas (in Stillwater and Austin).
Two other opponents (Missouri State and Syracuse) are receiving votes in both polls.
Cowboys in the NCAA Statistics
Oklahoma State ranks No. 2 nationally in won-loss percentage at 93.8 percent. That ranks behind only Clemson which is the lone undefeated this season.
OSU ranks ninth in field-goal shooting at 51.3 percent.
The Cowboys are 10th in scoring offense, averaging 84.9 points per game.
The Pokes are 17th in free-throw shooting at 75.2 percent.
OSU is 18th in scoring margin, averaging 16.6 more points per game than its opponent.
Individually, Mario Boggan is 11th nationally in scoring at 21.9 points per game while JamesOn Curry is 40th, averaging 18.9 points per contest.
Boggan is 20th in field-goal shooting at 62.4 percent. He is the only player in the top-30 that has more than 200 attempts.
Terrel Harris ranks 62nd nationally in free-throw shooting at 84.6 percent.
Curry is 64th in three-point shooting at 42.2 percent and 84th in three-pointers made per game at 2.7 treys per contest.
Harris is 81st in steals , averaging two thefts per game.
Boggan is 87th in rebounds at 7.8 per game while Curry is 87th in assists, dishing out 4.7 assists per contest.
