OSU Tennis has Six Players Selected to Compete in Tournament

Oklahoma State's men's tennis team had six players selected to compete at the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Tournament hosted by the University of Tulsa in October, it was announced on Thursday.
Daniel Byrnes, the Cowboy's top player a year ago, will compete in the individual main draw which will take place Oct. 5-8. The senior finished last season with a 13-8 record and ranked 17th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Melbourne, Australia native was selected to compete at the NCAA Tournament as an individual and was the Cowboy's first All-American since Pavel Kudrnac in 1998. Byrnes was also an All-Big 12 selection and the Big 12 champion at No. 1 singles, a year ago.
The Cowboy's top doubles team of Byrnes and his younger brother Nathan has also been selected for the main draw at the All-American Tournament. The duo earned All-Big 12 honors a year ago when the finished with a 12-7 mark and ranked 33rd nationally.
The younger Byrnes will be competing in the qualifying rounds of the individual tournament. The sophomore went 7-2 during his freshman campaign in 2006.
Ivan Puchkarov will also try to make his way through the qualifying rounds in Tulsa. The junior had a stellar first season in Stillwater as he was a unanimous All-Big 12 selection and both the Central Region and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. The Simfevopol, Ukraine native went 18-3 a year ago and had a 15-match win streak. Puchkarov finished the season ranked No. 90.
The doubles team of Puchkarov and Artie Burmistrau have also been selected for the qualifying rounds of the tournament. The tandem will be competing for the first time together.
Burmistrau will join fellow Cowboys Olexsander Kotsiuk and Jason Wright in the pre-qualfying rounds of the tournament. Burmistrau, a senior, was an Academic All-Big 12 selection a season ago, while Kotsiuk sported a 12-8 record during his freshman season. Wright won the only match he competed last year.
The tournament will feature 128 players and 64 doubles teams in qualifying rounds, Oct. 2-4, that feed into a 64-player, 32-doubles team main draw Oct. 5-8.
The Cowboys will open the fall portion of their schedule Sept. 23-24 at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas.
