August 09, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
In eight games, Kollo averaged 13.6 points and 4.5 rebounds. The Budapest native scored in double figures in seven of those eight contests, including a 22-point effort against defending champion France in the semifinals.
Kollo also averaged 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals per outing and helped the squad to a 3-0 record in pool play. In addition to wins over Israel and the Ukraine, Hungary posted a 73-70 come-from-behind victory over France that included four points in the final 47 seconds by Kollo to secure the win. The 6-0 forward also recorded one double-double during the tournament with a 10-point, 10-rebound performance against the Ukrainian squad.
Hungary tallied a 2-1 record in the quarterfinal round that included victories over Belgium and Greece and set up its semifinal rematch against France.
Behind Kollo's impressive offensive performance, the Hungarians pulled out an 87-85 overtime victory against the French squad to set up a championship meeting with Russia, which dealt Hungary its only previous loss. In the title game, the Russian squad prevailed once again, posting a 77-68 victory.
Kollo spent the past two seasons at Colby (Kan.) Community College where she earned Kodak All-America honors and was twice selected as the Jayhawk West Conference Player of the Year. In addition, she competed last summer for Hungary's U19 National Team at the World Championships.
She will be one of nine newcomers to suit up for the Cowgirls during the 2006-07 campaign.
