Cowgirl Basketball Adds Bruce Erickson As Director of Operations
July 31, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
Erickson has served as the head coach of three high school programs over the past 24 years in the state of Kansas, compiling a career record of 322-187. He began his head coaching career with a six-year stint at Morland High School before spending the next four seasons at Ellis High School
Erickson worked the past 14 seasons at Salina South High School where he directed the Cougars to one runner-up showing and two third-place finishes at the state tournament. A three-time county coach of the year, he also coached former Cowgirl Leah Wahlgren during his tenure.
In addition, Erickson has served as an assistant coach for the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game and as head coach the past two seasons for the Kansas Basketball Showcase.
Erickson also worked the past two years as the camp director for the USBL's Kansas Cagerz camp and has worked as both a floor coach and camp director at numerous college and university summer camps.
“There is only one job I would have left Salina South for and this is it,” Erickson said. “I am looking forward to working with a coach the caliber of Coach Budke. He has a quality staff and I am excited about the opportunity to join them and work at the Division I level with an Oklahoma State program that is on the rise.”
Among Erickson's duties as director of operations will be assisting with the program's marketing, travel, equipment and on-campus recruiting. He will also serve as the camp director for the Cowgirls' summer camps.
“Bruce brings 24 years of high school coaching experience to the table,” Budke said. “With his extensive experience, he will be able to enhance several facets of our program and we are pleased he has chosen to join our staff.”
Erickson replaces Becky Mendez, who took an assistant coaching position earlier this summer at Fresno State.
