“Kyle has played a very instrumental role in the success of our program the last seven years,” Sutton said. “His loyalty, commitment and passion for both Oklahoma State and our program has been very much appreciated.
“He has a great deal of knowledge for the game, a tremendous work ethic and is an excellent recruiter,” added Sutton. “I'm confident that in his new role, he'll continue to be a great asset to our program.”
Keller, who has been OSU's director of basketball operations the past four seasons, returns to a position as an assistant coach, a title he had for three years previously under the legendary Eddie Sutton.
Prior to joining the Cowboy coaching staff in 1999, Keller had been the head coach at Tyler Junior College in Texas for two seasons.
Keller began his coaching career as a student assistant at Oklahoma State. After graduating from OSU in 1990, he joined Jerry Loyd's staff at Louisiana Tech as the Bulldogs won back-to-back conference titles.
During the 1995-96 season, Keller served as an assistant coach at Tyler Junior College. He spent the following season as an assistant at Texas-San Antonio. Keller returned to Tyler JC a year later as the head coach.
Keller has coached several players that have gone on to play professionally in the National Basketball Association, including Desmond Mason and Melvin Sanders at OSU and P.J. Brown and Ron Ellis at Louisiana Tech.
“It has been a thrill working for both of the Suttons,” said Keller. “I have truly enjoyed my tenure here. Winning multiple conference championships and making appearances in the Sweet 16, the Elite Eight and the Final Four have been unforgettable experiences.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to assist Coach Sean Sutton in any capacity necessary to continue the legacy that he started here as a player, continued as an assistant coach, and now has before him as the head coach. Each and every day, I observe and admire his commitment to this University and this basketball program.”
Keller graduated from Oklahoma State in 1990 with a degree in business management and earned his master's degree in human relations and supervision from Louisiana Tech in 1991. He is married to the former Chaunsea Olin, an OSU graduate.
