May 04, 2006 | Cowboy Tennis
“This is going to be a tough region,” said head coach James Wadley. “Florida is one of the top teams in the country and Drake and Western Michigan are real tough. We are very excited to be hosting and we are going to have to play our best tennis to advance on.”
The Cowboys earned an at-large bid after finishing the season 16-5 and are the No. 15 seed in this year's tournament. This is Oklahoma State's second straight year to host a regional and fourth consecutive year to make the field of 64.
Oklahoma State will host Drake in the first round of the tournament on May 13. Drake received the Missouri Valley Conference's automatic bid and finished the season with a 24-3 record.
In the other first round match that will be played in Stillwater, No. 16 Florida will go against No. 56 Western Michigan, also on May 13. The Gators are an at-large selection out of the Southeastern Conference and finished the season 15-7. Western Michigan was the Mid-American Conference's automatic bid after a 25-4 campaign.
The winner of the two matches will meet on May 14 and the winner will advance to the Sweet 16 in Palo Alto, Calif., on May 20.
