Cowgirl freshman Karin Kinnerud had the best round of the day for Oklahoma State, finishing with a two-over 74. Fellow freshman Amanda Johnson, a Jenks, Okla., product, played well in just her second tournament of the spring season. She recorded a 78, the second-best round of the day by a Cowgirl.
Oklahoma State is 21 strokes behind team leader USC, which carded a five-over 293. Top-ranked Duke is in second place with a 294, while Pepperdine and Florida are tied for third place with a 303. The Cowgirls are just five strokes back of the top-eight teams, the cutoff for advancing to the NCAA Championships.
Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and Devan Andersen of Texas are tied atop the individual leaderboard with a two-under 70 during the first round. There is a four- way tie for second place at one-under 71.
The tournament will continue on Friday with another round of 18 holes, and conclude on Saturday with a final round of 18. The top-eight teams and two individuals will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 23-26, in Columbus, Ohio.
