Oklahoma State's 25th-ranked men's tennis returned to Big 12 action Friday, defeating No. 42 Texas Tech, 6-1.
Friday's match was originally scheduled to be played in Stillwater, but due to strong winds and rains, the two teams traveled to Tulsa to play indoors at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa.
“We played extremely well,” said OSU coach James Wadley. “It was as complete a match as we've played all year.”
The Cowboys (11-3, 3-2) won all three doubles matches and then won four consecutive matches before dropping the lone match.
“I thought all of our guys played really well,” Wadley said. “We looked really good at every spot, including at No. 3 where Felipe (Diaz) lost. He was up in the first set, but couldn't get it done.
“To beat them 6-1 in what is supposed to be a rebuilding year, is a great compliment to our team.”
For Texas Tech (11-7, 0-2), Friday's match marks its third consecutive loss heading into a Sunday match against No. 46 Oklahoma.
The Cowboys return to action Sunday when they look to upset defending champion and current No. 5 Baylor in Stillwater at 2 p.m. There will be free pizza and soft drinks for fans during Sunday's match.
The last time the two teams met, BU (13-4, 1-0) defeated OSU in the Big 12 Championship, 4-1.
“We're really looking forward to taking them on at home on Sunday,” Wadley said. “The guys are ready to go.”
