No. 35 Cowboys defeat No. 52 Nebraska, 6-1
March 25, 2006 | Cowboy Tennis
“It was a tough tennis match,” said OSU assistant coach Yevgen Bondarchuk. “We were fortunate to get the doubles point because it gave us momentum.”
The Cowboys (8-1) lost at the No. 2 position in doubles, but were able to bounce back and gain the one point advantage before playing singles.
In singles, OSU's lone loss came at the No. 1 position, where No. 23 Daniel Byrnes was upset by Jerry Posch; 3-6, 7-6 (14-12). The match marked Byrne's first solo match since March 5. The junior missed the last two matches due to an injury.
Senior Felipe Diaz had the best match of the day for the Cowboys at the No. 4 position, where he knocked off Arturo Navarro; 6-1, 6-1.
“Felipe played really well, which was very good for him,” Bondarchuk said. “All of our guys played good today, but his win will help him a lot.”
Up next for the Cowboys, who are currently in the midst of a six-match winning streak, is a home match against Colorado (9-5) on Sunday.
Originally slated for 10 a.m., the match has been moved to 2 p.m. to accommodate the No. 62 Cowgirl netters, who play No. 15 Texas at 10 a.m.
