No. 22 Cowboys to face nationally ranked opponents
February 09, 2006 | Cowboy Tennis
The Cowboys (1-0) will face No. 40 Rice on Friday at noon and No. 30 Miami on Saturday at noon.
Led by No. 27 Daniel Byrnes, the Cowboys began their season last Friday with a 7-0 victory over Memphis in Tulsa, which also marked the debut of newcomers Nathan Byrnes, Olexsander Kotsiuk and Ivan Puchkarov.
“Our first match was tough, but these two will be a lot tougher,” OSU coach James Wadley said. “This will be a good test of where we're at as a team this early in the season.”
The Owls (4-1) are coming off of a 6-1 victory at Michigan State on Sunday, while the Hurricanes (2-1) are coming off of a loss to No. 1 Florida, 5-2.
“Even though Rice dropped in the rankings, they are a tough team, and we're playing them at their place,” Wadley said. “Miami is a solid team that jumped 10 spots after losing a hard fought match to the top team in the nation. Both matches will be very tough.”
