Cowgirl Basketball Falls At Texas Tech, 48-35
February 09, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
The Cowgirls (6-16 overall, 0-11 Big 12) struggled to get going offensively in the first half, shooting 25 percent and hitting only six shots from the field. After a Shaunte' Smith layup gave OSU a 10-9 lead, the Cowgirls managed to put just five points on the board over the remaining 14:21 of the half.
The Lady Raiders (11-10, 6-4) jumped back in front and stretched the lead to 21-12 on consecutive 3-point baskets. The Cowgirl defense kept them within striking distance before a steal and a layup by Tech's LaVonda Henderson with 20 seconds remaining pushed the lead into double figures.
A Lady Raider free throw with six seconds remaining gave them their largest lead of the half and sent them into the intermission up 26-15.
To start the second half, Tech used a 10-2 run that included Alesha Robertson's third 3-point basket of the contest to begin to pull away. The Lady Raiders were able to build the lead to as many as 21 and never allowed the Cowgirls to draw any closer than 13 the rest of the way.
Senior Catherria Turner was the lone OSU player to reach double figures, scoring 10 points, while Smith finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Tech's LaToya Davis led all scorers with 12 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds as well.
OSU will be back in action on Feb. 15 when it returns home to host Missouri at 7 p.m.
