No. 23 Cowboys to begin season Friday against Memphis

The Cowboys were supposed to start the season Jan. 20 at the ITA Central Region Indoor Championship, but injuries and illness kept the Cowboys out of competition.
“I'm excited that we finally get to start competing, and we're doing it against a good Memphis team,” Wadley said. “We are finally healed up, so I look forward to tomorrow's match.”
Memphis comes into the match after knocking off Samford last Friday, 6-1. The Tigers face Oral Roberts on Thursday.
Leading the Cowboys at No. 1 will be sophomore Daniel Byrnes, who is currently the top-ranked player in the Central Region and 27th in the nation.
“I can just say that I am excited to get a chance to play No. 1, and we are looking forward to playing our first match of the season, with three new freshmen making their debut,” Byrnes said.
Those making their debut for the Cowboys are Nathan Byrnes, Olexsander Kotsiuk and Ivan Puchkarov.
“After losing two great players last year, these three guys will try to fill in the void,” Wadley said. “I look forward to seeing what these guys can do against competition.”
Senior Tomas Bohunicky -- who is the second ranked player in the Central Region -- will compete at the No. 2 singles position, while junior Artie Burmistrau will compete at the No. 3 position.
