No. 27 Cowboys defeat Bears, 5-0
February 26, 2006 | Cowboy Tennis
“This was a team we beat in the first round last year, so they're pretty good,” said OSU coach James Wadley. “It took a solid effort for us to beat them.”
The Cowboys (4-1) won two of three matches in doubles, losing at No. 2 where Wadley said the duo of Tomas Bohunicky and Artie Burmistrau were hampered by an injury.
“Artie was pulled from singles because of a blister on his foot, and you could tell it affected his play in the doubles match,” Wadley said.
In singles, it took Bohunicky and Ivan Puchkarov three sets to win, and Wadley said part of the reason was the environment.
“Playing indoors made it tough on some of our guys, but they were able to pull it out,” Wadley said.
While No. 45 Daniel Byrnes and Kotsiuk cruised at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively, Felipe Diaz and Nathan Byrnes did not finish their matches.
The Cowboys return to action in Stillwater at 1 p.m. on March 5, when they host No. 32 Texas Christian.
