Nebraska Shoots Past Cowgirls, 81-56
February 22, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
The Cornhuskers (15-10 overall, 7-7 Big 12) had the hot hand in the first half, hitting 62 percent of their shots from the field on their way to a 53-30 halftime advantage.
The Cowgirls (6-19, 0-14) were able to remain close throughout much of the half, hitting seven treys of their own fueled by senior Catherria Turner's 3-of-4 effort on her way to a team-best nine points in the half.
However, back-to-back threes by Chelsea Aubry got the Husker lead into double figures.
Jessica Gerhart, who made all eight of her shots from the floor, scored eight of the Huskers' first 10 points in the second half on her way to a team-high 16 points to put the game out of reach.
Junior Whitney Pegram led the Cowgirls with 14 points on the night, while Turner added 11 of her own.
A pair of Cowgirls etched their names into the school's record book on the night. Junior Christian Hood blocked two shots, giving her 118 for her career and moving her into first place atop the all-time blocked shots chart, while Pegram blocked her 66th shot of the season to move into sole possession of first place on the school's single-season blocks list.
